The "Legacy 2016" Project

What is “Legacy 2016”?

Legacy 2016 is an initiative to bring back the good old days of the Legacy format, spawned mainly due to frustration of the direction towards which our beloved format is being pushed.

Rules

Matches of Legacy 2016 are subject to the following rules:

  • All newest Comprehensive Rules apply (including the mulligan procedure, shortcuts policy and specific interactions such as ⁠Blood Moon with some lands1 and ⁠Humility with some creatures2).
  • Card legality is determined by the state of the format at the very end of the year 2016. This means that all cards from all sets up to (and including) Kaladesh3 are legal, excluding all banned cards.

For players who would like to join but are lacking a starting point, it is recommended to take a look at the top 64 of Grand Prix Prague 2016 or the top 32 of Grand Prix Columbus 2016.

  1. ⁠Blood Moon used to make ⁠Dark Depths enter with counters, not without them. ↩︎

  2. ⁠Humility used to allow ⁠Painter's Servant to choose a color when it enters. ↩︎

  3. Cards from Aether Revolt (and onwards) are not legal. ↩︎
